Rally to get NY Off Fossil Fuels at Long Beach

unnamed (16)

What are we thankful for?

We have the greatest volunteer team around.. and they make it all happen when we call on them. This past week they turned out for a rally on the freezing cold Long Beach Boardwalk to get NY Off Fossil Fuels, covered in Newsday. Thanks to Joanne, Karen, Susan, Shelley, Karin, Jayne, Barbara and everyone else who came out!
They’ve been diligently seeking, collecting, including reusable bag use info sheets, and then distributing reusable bag donations from local businesses for other organizations to give away during the holiday season, many going out this week with Thanksgiving meals in them in Long Beach, Sea Cliff and Lynbrook.

Do you know what else we are thankful for?

You. Thank you for taking this journey with us and for your support!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Rally on Long Beach Boardwalk Nov. 18, 2017

unnamed (13)

Another unwanted pipeline coming onshore? Just, why?

This Saturday 11/18/17 at noon, we will rally on the Long Beach Boardwalk with our allies from New York Communities for Change, Food & Water Watch, NYPIRG, Sane Energy Project, Move Forward Long Island, Show Up Long Island, Sierra Club Long Island Group and others to send a message to Governor Andrew Cuomo: Stop fracking infrastructure in New York!

As part of a statewide week of action, we’re calling on Governor Cuomo to be a true climate leader: #CuomoWalkTheTalk and get New York #OffFossilFuels: to stop the Williams pipeline and other projects that transport and burn fracked oil & gas and commit to transitioning to 100 percent renewable energy.

On Saturday, November 18 at noon, join us on the Long Beach boardwalk at National Boulevard (in front of the Allegria Hotel).

Letter in Long Beach Herald Sept. 22, 2017

The Long Beach Herald printed my letter… and since then another Category 5 hurricane devastated St Croix, USVI and Puerto Rico.
Climate change certainly is demanding our response. The answer is in you and me, in making it a priority, and acting together.

LIPA Board Meeting July 20, 2017

LIPA said “whoa”, and rejected this round, in investing in more off shore wind, new solar farms, and pretty much anything they had going.
http://www.newsday.com/long-island/source-lipa-rejects-planned-solar-farm-offshore-wind-project-1.13813172

Then, at yesterday’s board meeting, the attitude of some of them was that they “have time” to act.

Our volunteer Joanne was there to speak and told them these delays are a huge disappointment, and that no, they don’t have time to stop climate change by putting off decisions. Thank You Joanne!

Obviously, we are going to raise a giant stink that they have now reneged on their MANDATED 300 megawatts of renewables in the pipeline by 2018.
This is EXACTLY WHY these supposed mandates (“50% renewables by 2030” anyone? “up to 2400 megawatts of off shore wind by 2030”??) Its all meaningless when Every…Single….Time these state agencies fail to produce what is REQUIRED of themselves which are ALREADY so watered down to a minimal number and extended timeline in the first place.
Remember, the groups in the Off Shore Wind Alliance were pushing for what was thought a reasonably realistic and imperative first start of 5000 megawatts of off shore wind by 2025…
It does not bode well and it is nonsense to talk about a 25 or even 50 cent rate increase as being an issue for needed renewables, when every home was mandated to pay $4 a month for the profits bailout for upstate nuclear power plants with virtually no public input or response to objections.
The off shore wind campaign continues, as will our community solar effort to get the renewables we desperately need on to the grid… and Sea Cliff says GO!!

We had a great turnout at the launch of our reusable bag campaign at Creative Arts Studio in Sea Cliff as our first locality in Nassau. Volunteer members who join the All Our Energy team, can act to build and expand the campaign in their local community with us, and we will empower them to help push the campaign locally. Thanks for all the hard Work To John, Lorraine, and Tracy who got the Sea Cliff movement off the ground.

LIPA Board of Trustees Meeting May 2017

LIPA

We had a busy week. After our strong group meeting, we went to the LIPA Board of Trustees to push for off shore wind with our allies. We told them we support them in fulfilling their legal obligation to purchase 400 Megawatts of renewables by 2018, of which only 190 have been filled since 2014, and that time is running out. We believe they are listening and with your help, will continue to support them to honor that obligation.

Event: 2017 Team Build Talk

To start the year, on Wednesday 1/4/17 at 7pm we will hold an informal talk at Long Beach Public Library
RSVP Here

Find out how together, we will support each other in the current political climate. Then, we will strengthen your ability to act, and be the solution to the issues at hand. Teams are forming now that will define our work this year- be a part of it!

Be part of the talk as we team up to discuss how to make our advocacy count this year with your volunteer help.

Help establish our media / quick response team to address the media as well as attacks on social media and other teams.

Work to help Long Beach eliminate single use bags, advocate for renewables-maybe even start our own project, fight bad investments in fossil fuels that can block renewables, and insist leaders take climate action.

We will talk of advocacy in the new bullying atmosphere, as environmental gains brace for attack. Instead, let’s build your power and organize around a message that makes the most impact.
